SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — The U.S. has finished the environmental review for a major coal mining project in Utah, marking the first expedited coal lease under President Trump's 'Big, beautiful bill.'

The U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) announced Wednesday that it had expedited the final environmental impact statement for additional coal mining lease on the Skyline Mine project in central Utah.

"The Skyline Mine project plays a vital role in sustaining good-paying jobs and supporting local economies across central Utah," the DOI said in a press release.

Situated north of Huntington Reservoir, the Skyline Mine, which has been in operation since 1981, would expand through two Bureau of Land Management leasing modifications: the Little Eccles Lease and the Flat Canyon Lease.
