South Burlington School District officially has a new acting superintendent less than a month before the start of the upcoming school year.

The South Burlington School Board selected district Executive Director of Educational Support Services Kristin Romick Aug. 1 to fill the superintendent role temporarily, which was left vacant when Violet Nichols resigned late last month after more than two years on the job.

Romick will serve as acting superintendent for about six weeks while the school board and the Vermont School Boards Association search for a "medium-term" interim superintendent, school board chair Seamus Abshere said in a statement . Once chosen, the interim superintendent will hold the position until a permanent replacement can be found .
