HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Gov. Ned Lamont and Gov. Vadym Filashkin announced that the State of Connecticut and Donetsk Oblast in Ukraine are entering into a new agreement.

The "sister state" agreement pledges to foster cooperation, partnership, and collaboration in social, cultural, economic, humanitarian and educational exchanges.

The Ukrainian province was invaded by Russian forces in 2022 and has been the site of heavy fighting since. Several Connecticut municipalities have also entered similar sister state agreements with Ukrainian municipalities, including Fairfield and Weston.
