HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH) — At least two bus shelters have been temporarily removed on Skiff Street in an effort to tackle the city's homeless problem, according to city officials.

The Hamden community expressed on Friday that they are now waiting for the bus without protection from the weather.

"I can’t blame these people for not having no place to stay, I can’t hold out against them, you know I been homeless myself before and it wasn’t by choice," said Edward Turner from Hamden. "They need to build more shelters and make rent more affordable."

Hamden Mayor Lauren Garrett told News 8 the city wanted to make sure that the people using public transportation have access to the bus shelters. But during the summer months, she said, people were living in the shelters at one of their busiest locat
