BRISTOL, Conn. (WTNH) — Fairfield is going to Williamsport.
The Connecticut state champion Fairfield National Little League baseball team defeated New York state champion St. James-Smithtown of New York, 12-1, Friday night in the Metro Region championship game in Bristol.
Fairfield joins American teams from Massachusetts, Illinois, Texas, South Carolina and Hawaii in clinching spots in the Little League World Series, which starts Wednesday, Aug. 13 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Fairfield finished the region with a 3-1 record and avenged its only loss of the tournament against New York on Monday.
The last time a Connecticut team reached the Little League World Series, Manchester represented the state in 2021. The Fairfield American Little League team reached the tournament three times
