MAYFIELD, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- State Police arrested Alison Martin of Mayfield on Wednesday as a result of an animal abuse investigation. Martin, 42, was charged with overdriving, torturing and injuring animals - failure to provide proper sustenance.
Law enforcement responded to a home in Mayfield just before 3:30 p.m. on August 5 after receiving a request for a welfare check on an animal at the property. State troopers reportedly found 23 dogs in the house that were subjected to unhealthy living conditions, with some allegedly not having access to drinking water.
Detectives determined that Martin operated Heartwarming Hounds Dog Rescue at the home, a not-for-profit organization. She was taken into custody on August 6, and the dogs in her care were seized and transferred to the James A. Bren
