FORT STEWART, Ga. (WSAV) — The infantryman who allegedly shot and killed a fellow solider on Fort Stewart in 2022 made his first court appearance Wednesday.
Suspected shooter Spc. Shay Wilson was federally indicted for murder on July 9, 2025, a 3rd Infantry Division Public Affairs spokesperson said.
He is charged in connection to the 2022 death of Sgt. Nathan M. Hillman.
Hillman was from Plum, Pennsylvania, and was assigned to the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division in July 2021.
He was a chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear specialist. Hillman had initially joined the Army in February 2015, deploying to Afghanistan once and earning the Air Assault Badge.
