SEATTLE — The City of Seattle will pay $3 million to settle a discrimination lawsuit filed by a 30-year veteran of the Seattle Police Department.
Deanna Nollette, who previously served the department as assistant chief, alleged discriminatory and retaliatory behavior from former police Chief Adrian Diaz in the lawsuit filed last year.
The lawsuit said Nollette was made to reapply for her position of assistant chief and applied for deputy chief when Diaz launched a nationwide search for his command staff after he became permanent chief in September 2022.
In July 2023, Nollette was not selected for either role and Diaz removed her from the position of assistant chief and returned her to the rank and pay rate of captain. The lawsuit said she submitted multiple complaints to the departmen
