ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - A popular bike trail called Big Branch Bike Park partially reopened on Thursday as the major project continues.
Cyclists made their way through the mud and damp field to reach the trail. It’s part of the $522,000 expansion project that has been underway for some time.
“We got it right here in our backyard,” said Jacksonville Cyclist Brian Russell. “It’s a great way to recreate being on a bike, getting some cardio and again for the kids not to be on their cell phones.”
The new addition is a 3.8 mile out and back trail, which will give people a 7.6 route in total to enjoy.
“This trail is ten minutes away from my house,” said Thomas Bradshaw, another cyclist. “Before this trail existed, it was about a 45 minute drive to the nearest trail.”
