SAN FRANCISCO — A full moon will light up the sky in a celestial showing this weekend.

August's "sturgeon moon" is set to peak Saturday night just before 4 a.m. ET when the nearside of the moon is fully illuminated, according to NASA . The moon will appear full from Aug. 8 through Aug. 9. The moon will look largest after sunset thanks to "moon illusion," which makes the moon look larger when it's over the horizon instead of higher in the sky.

Along with the full moon this month, the Perseid meteor shower will peak from Aug. 12 through Aug. 13, according to Space.com . Due to how close the full moon and the meteor shower peaks are, the moon may make viewing the shower more difficult.

Here's what you need to know if you want to catch a glimpse of August's full moon.
