PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – The suspect of a Northeast Portland shooting faces a charge of second-degree murder, police announced Thursday.

Amel R. Johnson, 31, is accused of shooting and killing 24-year-old Marlan Johnson in the Lloyd District neighborhood on June 23, 2023. The two men were not related.

Johnson was indicted for the shooting death in April of last year. At the time of the indictment, he was in Nevada, where he had been lodged on separate charges.

On Aug 4, Johnson was then extradited to Oregon and charged with second-degree murder, felon in possession of a firearm, and two counts of recklessly endangering another person. He is lodged in the Multnomah County Jail.
