DANVILLE — Though she has been steadfastly advocating for cancer research for more than a decade, Donna Kemberling's world was rocked on May 2 when she heard the words "you have cancer."

Kemberling, of Danville, lost her father to lung cancer when she was just 5 years old and got involved with Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network following the passing of her husband in 2005.
