PENNSYLVANIA (WTAJ) — Marginal Conventional Well (MCW) plugging projects in Central Pennsylvania have been awarded funding to help reduce the level of methane gas that is being emitted across the Commonwealth.
MCWs are oil or gas wells that produce less than 15 barrels of oil equivalent (BOE, i.e. 15bbl/day oil or 90,000 cubic feet (90 mcf) of gas/day or combination thereof).
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) awarded $7,240,000 to 35 projects across the state through the Methane Emissions Reduction Program (MERP). In order to be eligible for funding, these projects had to be in compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, including those related to the submission of well production, waste, and mechanical integrity assessment reports.
