WYANDOTTE COUNTY, Kan. —

A man faces several charges in connection with the stabbing of Shawnee Police Department K-9 officer, Dagger, and the events surrounding the stabbing.

Edwin Perez, 26, has been charged with aggravated robbery, interference with law enforcement and harming or killing certain dogs, which includes police dogs, according to the Wyandotte County District Attorney's Office. Advertisement

The charges stem from a barricade incident in which Perez is accused of stabbing Dagger after police officers entered a home to take him into custody.

The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department responded to the area of the 900 block of Riverview Avenue around 3:45 a.m. on Aug. 5 on reports of a disturbance.
