Instagram rolls out new location

(CNN) – Instagram has rolled out a new feature that shows a user’s current location.

It’s called Instagram Map and includes an actual map of the United States, showing where users are active.

It also updates your location every time you use the app.

The change has prompted some users to worry that their location is automatically being shared with the public.

However, Instagram’s parent company, META, says the feature is off unless you turn it on to opt-in on sharing your location.

You can also opt to share it with only specific people.

Location services already exist on the app but only if you actively tag where you are.

META says parents who have supervision settings for their child’s account can control location sharing.
