Arts and humanities organizations in the U.S. notched a key win after a federal judge ruled that cuts implemented by the Department of Government Efficiency were “unlawful.”
U.S. District Judge Michael Simon issued a preliminary injunction against the decision by DOGE and the National Endowment for the Humanities to terminate federal grants that were previously approved for various arts and humanities organizations nationwide.
The decision means that funding cuts enacted by the Trump administration against the humanities councils will not take effect while the lawsuit goes through the legal system.
