Kings County has been ordered to pay $1.9 million to an employee who was sexually harassed and retaliated against by former District Attorney Keith Fagundes.
A Kings County jury awarded the payout to Alexandria Smith, a secretary in the District Attorney’s Office.
The backstory: Fagundes served two terms in office until he was ousted by current District Attorney Sarah Hacker in 2022. • He previously faced sexual harassment allegations from his top investigator, Robert Waggle. • Those claims ultimately were settled with Kings County paying Waggle $1.1 million. • Smith filed her own lawsuit against the county, alleging Kings County did not take action after learning about her claims that Fagundes sexually harassed her and retaliated against her.
