GREENVILLE, Ky. — The family of a 21-year-old U.S. Air Force airman killed in a firearm discharge at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Wyoming is calling for the military and police to stop using the Sig Sauer M18 handgun, alleging it fired without a trigger pull.
Airman Brayden Lovan’s July 20 death has prompted the Air Force to pause use of the weapon, fueling a broader debate over its safety, with the family considering a wrongful death lawsuit against the manufacturer.
Lovan, a Greenville, Kentucky, native who enlisted in 2023, died during his first assignment with the 90th Security Forces Squadron.
“From what we understand, based upon information from military sources and otherwise, is that the gun fired without anyone’s hand on the trigger; it was a holstered weapon,” said Robert Zimm
