HARTFORD, Conn — Connecticut Attorney General William Tong is leading a bipartisan multistate effort urging the U.S. Department of Justice to better enforce legal action against harmful and unlawful online sports betting and gaming operations.

Tong is helping lead a coalition of 50 attorneys general in asking the DOJ to curb the spread of illegal offshore gaming across the country.

According to the coalition, more action is necessary to stop unprecedented growth in illicit online gambling, an industry that makes hundreds of billions of dollars annually.

The request to the DOJ was officially made in a letter sent by Tong and the coalition to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi on Tuesday, according to a release from Tong’s office.
