SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — The ribbon is cut, and the 172nd Illinois State Fair is officially underway.

From Snoop Dogg and Brad Paisley at the Grandstand to the Village of Cultures and the Midway, there is plenty for Illinoisians of all ages to enjoy.

"Whether you're a returning fairgoer or visiting for the first time, you're about to discover something new, exciting and uniquely Illinois around every corner," said State Fair Manager Rebecca Clark.

State leaders said they are excited for visitors to see the improvements made around the fairgrounds, from repaved roads to enhanced seating and bathrooms in the coliseum.

Springfield Mayor Misty Buscher said the city is blessed to have historic investments for the fair, boosting tourism and the local economy.
