WASHINGTON COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) -- Every year, the business community in Washington County rallies to express appreciation to police, firefighters, EMS teams and those associated with the public safety mission of the region.
It is a dangerous line of work. The chamber recognized at its Thursday ceremony in Fairplay the heroism of Hagerstown Police Officer Bethany Basta, who saved a stabbing victim's life.
"I want to help people," said Basta. "I want to help the best way I can."
City Police Chief Paul Kifer expressed his appreciation.
"I am extremely proud to work alongside Bethany and the rest of the squad for all the work that they do," Kifer said.
