The city of Billings is shutting down its swimming pools a little earlier this summer due to a shortage of lifeguards.
The wading pools will now close for the season at 6 p.m. on Aug. 15. However, spray grounds will remain open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at North, South, Terry, Highland and Castle Rock parks.
South Park Pool will shut down at 6 p.m. on Aug. 24 while Rose Pool will remain open with reduced hours based on lifeguard availability from Aug. 25 to 30.
The Billings Parks and Recreation Department then plans to celebrate the end of the season with the annual Dog Days of Summer event. People can bring their dogs to swim and play fetch in the Rose Park Pool from noon to 3 p.m. on Aug. 31 before the city begins the winterization process.
