WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (WETM) -- NASCAR driver Ross Chastain visited Watkins Glen on Thursday in a meet and greet with race fans as part of the “Protect Your Melon” campaign. The campaign's focus was on raising awareness about the usage of seatbelt safety.
People lined up outside at the Schuyler County Courthouse on Thursday, August 7, for an autograph and picture with Chastain, who is often referred to as the "Melon Man." Some of the race fans 18 News spoke with felt appreciative of Chastain taking the time to underscore the importance of drivers wearing a seatbelt and for being engaged with the community.
"It's terrible when people aren't wearing their seat belts, so everyone needs to make sure they're wearing their seat belts, and I'm glad to see Ross pushing forward too," said Elias Orfa
