FORT STEWART, Ga. — The Army sergeant credited with helping stop the gunman who opened fire on five soldiers at Fort Stewart Wednesday spoke Thursday about what made him intervene.
The base commander identified the accused shooter as 28-year-old Army Sgt. Quornelius Radford and said he is in custody pending the investigation. All the soldiers who were shot are expected to make a full recovery.
Army Sgt. Aaron Turner has been in the service for a decade and said the day began with nothing out of the ordinary, until he saw Radford walking with a gun. He quickly jumped into action.
"I seen the teammate having it where he had this hood, and the fact of the sidearm he ended up having on the side of him," Turner recalled in an interview with First Coast News on Thursday.
Turner said he
