GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. —

A man who shot and killed his wife in August 2023 will spend more than two decades in prison for her murder.

Marcus Lofton pleaded guilty to shooting his wife, Alicia Lofton, multiple times, resulting in her death. The attack occurred a day after she served him divorce papers. Police said the couple had only been married about six months.

The plea came after an original trial ended in a hung jury at the end of May.

Multiple family members of Alicia addressed Lofton in court, telling him how they had known he wasn’t right for Alicia.
