WACO, Texas (KWTX) - With McLennan County District Clerk Jon Gimble leaving office to seek the District 22 Texas Senate seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Brian Birdwell, two county employees have announced their intent to succeed Gimble.

Connley Litton, Gimble’s current chief deputy district clerk, announced his candidacy at the courthouse on Thursday, while Rebecca Eubank, 414th State District Court assistant court administrator, jumped into the race first with an announcement in June.

The two, and perhaps others, will face off in the March Republican primary.
