LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - In the wake of a recent bomb threat at a county courthouse , the Laredo Police Department is urging city leaders to prioritize preparedness and safety.
During a recent city council meeting, Police Chief Miguel Rodriguez Jr. requested the purchase of two new bomb suits for the department’s bomb squad. The request comes as LPD continues to handle a steady number of threats—receiving between 20 to 25 bomb-related calls each year.
“We have to make sure that we always have them available to be prepared,” Rodriguez told the council. “But also to make sure that when we are engaging those types of actions—where we do a court-authorized [search] in a home and we find a device that we don’t know what to expect from it—we have to send those bomb technicians.”
