FORT STEWART, Ga. — A shooting at Fort Stewart on Wednesday morning prompted an active shooter event and lockdown at the largest Army base. The suspect has been identified, and five soldiers were injured.

Where is Fort Stewart?

Fort Stewart is located in Hinesville, which is a town in Liberty County. The city is 41 miles southwest of Savannah. It's the largest Army installation east of the Mississippi River.

The Army base has a population of 8,821 people. Hinesville has a population of 35,000 people.
