PALMETTO, Fla. (WWSB) - Palmetto Police are urging residents to lock their cars and remove all their valuables before leaving their cars after several break-ins Wednesday morning.

Cash, a purse, loose change and car registration papers are some of the items that were stolen after four cars were broken into.

Chief Scott Tyler describes the breaks as “a crime of opportunity.” The unlocked cars were broken into on Seventh and Eighth streets between 10th Avenue West and 14th Avenue West.

Police say that break-ins have been on the decline across Manatee County, so while unusual, this is a great reminder to lock your cars and remove your valuables before leaving.
