DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Prosecutors in the trial of a man accused of killing two people and an unborn fetus rested their case Thursday after presenting evidence that one of the victims was worried she would be killed by the defendant.

Nicole “Nico” Cunigan Jr. is accused of killing Deonte Johnson,16, Precious Taste, 32, and Taste’s unborn child in May 2024. He faces a dozen counts, including four counts of murder and two of felonious assault.

On the trial’s third day, a detective with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office shared a text chain from Taste’s phone with someone alleged to be Cunigan. More than 50 pages of texts were shared in the courtroom, with some from Taste referring to the other person as “baby” and others referencing “Nico.”
