After a month, ComEd is closing applications for a fund allowing Illinois residential and non-profit customers to get money off their electric bill.

The $10 million Customer Relief Fund, launched in July, was meant to offset rising summer costs . The fund received about 77,000 applications in the first three weeks, and ComEd closed the fund's applications due to "significant demand," according to a statement from the utility company.

The fund came after ComEd bills saw higher rates as part of a "capacity charge increase." The increase was seen on bills starting in June and was expected to cause average residential bills to increase by about $10 monthly.
