AUSTIN, Texas — A former Travis County teacher has been sentenced to 71 years in prison after being convicted of numerous felonies related to child sex abuse.

According to the Hays County District Attorney's Office, 54-year-old Kevin Abeyta was convicted and sentenced this week of continuous sexual abuse of a child, six counts of possession of child pornography with intent to promote and 13 counts of possession of child pornography.

The Hays County Sherriff's Office began investigating Abeyta, a former art teacher at Campbell Elementary School, after claims of sexual abuse from a child who was not a student.

Abeyta was living and teaching in Atlanta when the investigation began. After he was interviewed by law enforcement, he gave several hard drives to a friend, who found child sexual
