JEFFERSON CITY — An organization that trains dogs to be service animals for farmers in need recently picked up a dog from an unlikely home: the Jefferson City Correctional Center.

PHARM Dog USA trains dogs for farmers living with an illness, injury or disability, founder Jackie Allenbrand said. PHARM stands for Pets Helping Agriculture in Rural Missouri.

PHARM picked up Bentley, a 3-year-old Plott hound, from the Jefferson City Correctional Center. The center is home to the Puppies for Parole program . This program takes in dogs from animal shelters and allows the inmates to give these dogs obedience training.
