SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Eversource officials gathered at the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame on Thursday to mark a major milestone in Massachusetts` ongoing energy transition.

Eversource started rolling out statewide smart meters in Springfield. "It is such a perfect day to celebrate in the city of first, our first advanced metering installations," said Penni Conner, Eversource Executive Vice President of Customer Experience and Energy Strategy.

In the last two years, Eversource has been working hard on new technology that allows customers and employees to understand energy usage in real-time.

"We will be getting 70 pieces of information every 15 minutes," said Conner.
