SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - August 3-9 is recognized by the National Coalition for Safer Roads as Stop On Red Week . Their message: safe stops, stronger communities.

According to the Federal Highway Administration , nearly 93% of drivers believe running a red light is unacceptable, yet 1 in 3 drivers reported doing so in the past 30 days.

Sergeant Travis Olsen with the Sioux Falls Police Department explained that a citation is $132.50, but there’s more at stake when simply running a red light.

He said, “Certainly, there’s a possibility of being involved in a motor vehicle crash or injuries and significant property damage.”
