MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - The National Weather Service received approval to hire hundreds of its workers following massive cuts and a federal hiring freeze. A retired Wisconsin NWS worker shares the importance of these positions.
This comes after the Trump administration laid off employees earlier this year.
Kevin Lynott worked from coast to coast and ended his meteorology career at the NWS Milwaukee/Sullivan office. He said the NWS plays an important role in getting vital information to people.
“You get your ups and downs in any business or industry, and sometimes federal government is no different,” Lynott said.
Lynott retired as the meteorologist in-charge in March, but he is keeping a close eye on changes.
“The things that were unfortunate that were happening to the National Weathe
