CASSIA COUNTY, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The Bureau of Land Management protects public lands, but also leases the land for activities like grazing.
Now the BLM is seeking input on the proposed geothermal leasing of 18 parcels of land in Southern Idaho.
In Blaine, Camas, Cassia and Owyhee counties, residents proposed leasing Bureau of Land Management public lands out for geothermal energy plants. Geothermal energy is a renewable source of energy that utilizes heat from the earths interior for electricity.
Heather Tiel-Nelson, a public affairs specialist with the Bureau of Land Management said geothermal energy is abundant on their managed lands, especially in the Western United States.
