LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Classes begin on Monday for the Clark County School District.

As the school year approaches, when it comes to crosswalks and student safety, things will look a little different, according to City of Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley.

“There's nothing more important to a parent or a grandparent than making sure your child or grandchild gets to school safely, and gets home safely,” Berkley added. “We are doing everything we can.”

School crosswalks have been a common topic in Las Vegas since a student tragically lost her life at Arbor View High School in May.

High School senior McKenzie Scott was walking along a crosswalk on Buffalo Drive when she was hit and killed by an accused drunk driver. The tragedy led to many students and parents advocating for change.
