NORFOLK, Va. — No, that's not fog — Wildfire smoke from over 700 active wildfires in Canada has blown thousands of miles down to Hampton Roads and Coastal North Carolina, affecting air quality and graying out the skies.
The good news is that we're currently experiencing what is likely to be the worst of the smoke. Today, most of Hampton Roads, North Carolina, and parts of the Eastern Shore had air quality that was rated "unhealthy for sensitive groups." This means immunocompromised individuals, as well as pregnant women, older adults and children, should limit their outdoor activity.
The bad news is, the smoke is going to hang around for the next few days. Still, on Friday and Saturday, our air quality looks to improve, becoming less dense overhead. The outlook will improve to moderate
