Boston Police report arresting a guy they say hit a man in the head with a hammer outside a Maverick Square bakery early Tuesday morning.

According to police, the victim was entering La Sultana, 40 Maverick Sq., around 6:30 a.m. when Eric Vargas, 37, stopped him to ask to use his cell phone:

After informing the suspect that he did not have one, the victim proceeded into the bakery. Upon exiting and walking toward his vehicle, the suspect allegedly struck the victim in the head with a hammer.

The victim sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at a nearby health center.
