DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Leaders in DeKalb County celebrated the official renaming of Ellenwood Park on Thursday in honor of the late Dr. Alice White Bussey, a pillar of the community.

Led by DeKalb County Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Affairs, the ribbon-cutting ceremony started at 10 a.m. at 4100 River Road in Ellenwood. The renaming of the park to the Alice White Bussey Legacy Park recognizes her decades of community service and advocacy in the Ellenwood Park community, with roots tracing back six generations.

Over $2 million was allocated to finish a new playground, park access, and retention pond at the park. In her own lifetime, Bussey secured improvements to the park as she sought to create a vibrant space for wellness, recreation, and community.
