PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek has approved funds to create a public access point at a place some consider a hidden gem after previously threatening a veto.

The move approved $45 million in legislative money to acquire more than 40 acres on the West Linn side of the Willamette Falls.

Last week, Kotek said she was considering vetoing the funding due to concerns over how money had been spent in the past.

The project involves private and public partnerships with plans to engage the community and local tribes in determining the site's future. That could include a park, a fish cleaning station, or a national heritage site.

A statement from the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde said they were disappointed in the decision.
