Lincoln resident Elizabeth Katt thought her life was in danger on Sept. 11, 2001, despite being more than 1,000 miles from New York City and the Twin Towers.
Little did she know that she and roughly 6,600 other passengers on more than 30 flights inbound from Europe were diverted to Canada would all land safely in Gander, Newfoundland — a town of just 10,000 people — that day; and that the story of the hospitality displayed by everyone involved would become the backstory and inspiration for acclaimed Broadway musical “Come From Away.”
That musical is making what Katt believes to be one of its first “community playhouse” runs at the Lincoln Community Playhouse , opening Friday and running through Aug. 24. Katt will be on hand before Sunday matinees to tell her story.
