ATLANTA — The Georgia Department of Revenue shared an update Thursday on the status of its surplus tax refund distribution across the state.
As of Thursday, the department has issued nearly 3 million refunds totaling over $1 billion, according to Joe Snowden, director of external affairs and communications at the department.
This hefty sum represents over 90% of the total refunds Georgia anticipates issuing, and about 98% of what the state expects to issue for now.
A second wave of refunds will start in October when taxpayers filing their 2024 returns on extensions will start receiving their refunds.
