WEST FARGO — Thursday’s heat and humidity didn’t stop high school football teams in the area from getting in their summer drills, but it did give them more than just practice to prepare for.
On hot days like Thursday, West Fargo Sheyenne coaches and players say hydration is key. Brennen Gable, a senior defensive lineman and tight end, said the turf makes the heat especially noticeable.
"You can feel it, especially when on the turf out here. It's ... it gets hot," Gable said.
The Mustangs try to avoid peak temperatures whenever possible. Thursday’s practice ended before noon, and head coach Jeremy Newton said players get water whenever they ask for it.
"When they want water, they get water. That's it. You have breaks between plays. That's a nice thing about football; we're not going con
