POYNETTE, Wis. (WKOW) -- Firefighters say a barbecue smoker that was too close to a home in Poynette started that house on fire.

Crews were called to a house on Park Street just after 3 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Poynette-Dekorra Fire Department. Firefighters found flames on the exterior of the home, which they say originated from the deck area. They say the fire also extended into the home's cathedral ceilings and attic space.

The fire was primarily contained to the kitchen and living room areas.

Everyone got out safely and no one was hurt. The American Red Cross is assisting the family.

The Poynette-Dekorra Fire Department says most pets were accounted for, except for one missing cat.
