TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - The family of a Good Samaritan killed just before Christmas is now formally requesting Pima County Attorney Laura Conover to recuse herself from the case. This request follows plea deals offered to two of the three suspects earlier this week.
Paul Clifford's body was discovered burning next to a stolen truck near his Redington home on Christmas Eve. He had gone to assist strangers with car trouble. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department arrested three suspects about a week later: Jack Upchurch, Elmer Smith and Wendy Scott.
Sabrina Vining, Clifford's daughter, delivered a letter to Conover expressing dissatisfaction with her handling of the case, asking for the state attorney general to take over.
