BENSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - The Benson Unified School District is alerting parents about a possible case of mumps within the district. The potential case has caught some residents by surprise, prompting the district to take action.
Superintendent Micah Mortensen of the Benson Unified School District informed parents through a letter about the situation. The Cochise County Health Department is still awaiting test results of the person with the suspected mumps case.
"We have about 1,300 students," Mortensen said.
Mortensen emphasized the district's proactive communication with local health authorities.
"We are in close communication both with Benson Hospital and the Cochise County Health Department and coordinated an effort to parents that there's a possible case of mumps," Mortensen said.
