CHILTON COUNTY, Ala. —

A visit with a friend led to a fatal shooting in Chilton County.

According to the Chilton County Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched after a report of a shooting at a home on County Road 324 in the Maplesville area Tuesday.

The CCSO said deputies found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

The sheriff's office said the victim, identified as Kirby Jones of Maplesville, was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

The sheriff's office's preliminary investigation revealed Jones was visiting a friend when an altercation took place between him and a neighbor, leading to the shooting.

Deputies arrested Evan Romano who is charged with murder.

Romano was placed in the Chilton County Jail.

The investigation remains ongoing.
