A South Shore man was ordered held in jail on murder and attempted murder charges after allegedly causing a fatal car crash while he and a separate driver were on their way to make a police report for an earlier crash last year in Woodlawn .

Markell Reeves, 40, was arrested Monday and charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery. Cook County Judge Rivanda Doss Beal ordered Wednesday that Reeves be held at the Cook County Jail pending the charges, according to court records.

Reeves was driving a red Ford Expedition around 10:20 p.m., May 25, 2024, when he collided with a 28-year-old woman driving a silver Volkswagen at South Shore Drive and 71st Street, according to Cook County prosecutors.
